An Eagle Up Close and Personal

Today we visited the Orphaned Wildlife Rehabilitation Society centre here in Delta, BC. (Better known as OWL). This group takes on the responsibility of rehabing sick and injured birds of prey from all over BC .....mostly hawks, owls, and eagles. (200 to 300 per year). The society also performs very important educational sessions at schools and other events throughout the lower mainland. This juvenile Bald Eagle, named "Sonsie" is a permanent resident as when he came to the centre he had already had too much human contact and would not be able to survive in the wild. Lucky for us, and school children all over the region, we get a chance to see an eagle up real close. He is four years old. His head feathers will turn pure white over the next few years.
