Houses in Japan

These are the houses of Weily's aunts where we stayed. The top house is a country/family home, 450km north of Tokyo, (Kitakami). The middle pics are of Weily's other aunt's home near Tokyo, (Chiba prefecture). Posted by Picasa

Eating in Japan

We had no shortages of food while we were in Japan. Weily's families treated us royally and once we got a little comfortable with the chopsticks we were able to experience a wide variety of foods. Weily's aunt took us through a traditional tea ceremony. The middle left and bottom middle pics show us at a standup "fast food"....quick and tasty! We mostly ate in the family homes....note the extended tables. Posted by Picasa

Sites in Japan

These are just a few of the typical sites one sees when visiting Japan. Restaurants display their dishes outside in front of the restaurant. Vending machines are everywhere. The bullit trains are fantastic and you can set your watch to the subway and train times. The temples here are in the town of Narita, close to the airport but much older. Posted by Picasa

Visit with Paul after 40+ years

This week Tricia and I were treated to dinner from an old pal from our past. Paul Hoffman and I were best of friends from grade 6 through to grade 12 and then in about 1962 we went our separate ways and until just recently had not heard of, or seen each other. Tricia of course was in our grade 12 class and we often double dated with Paul and his girlfriend at the time. Dinner the other night was full of memories and a lot of catching up. Posted by Picasa

"Ernie" (1906 - 1978)

Ernest Richard Jones was born on 17 January 1906. (would have been 100 years old, this year)

"Ernie" is Tricia's dad and of course was a London "bobby" prior to retiring (after 25 years service) and immigrating to Australia(1953) and eventually settling in Canada(1959).

Note....sirname is also Jones.....Tricia always says she "married down" from her real Welsh 'Jones' upbringing, to a common Canadian 'Jones' family. I just don't think she wanted to change the names on her luggage tags. Posted by Picasa

Wolf???

Wolf or Dog? Actually this is a dog keenly watching it's human companions further out in the cold glacier water, but smart enough to not go out after them. They were on 'water pedal bikes'. (PS these folks and dog were visiting Nimmo Bay Fishing Lodge where a recent "Boston Legal" TV episode was made while Alan and Denny were on a retreat.) Posted by Picasa
