My Mom and Dad

This picture was taken a few years back....I'm guessing around 1962....some 45 years ago. I think it is, and was, the best picture we ever had of them both together. They were married in 1933, so that would have been about 30 years together at that time. She was Grandma Vi to our kids and Auntie Vi to many others, and he was Grandpa or Uncle Jack. The kids called her Grandma Vi as they had another grandma who they called Grandma Rose....two flowers.

Judy and Mike hosted Christmas Dinner again this year. Judy's brother, Doug, and Michelle and Elle, had dinner with Michelle's family and Karen and Weily and Teo had dinner with Weily's family so Jacob's grandparents got to party all night with Jacob.

A Visit with Santa

Santa wouldn't let me sit on his lap, so I snucked in behind to have my picture taken with Santa.

Fortunately for Teo there was a real Santa at the party....he wasn't too sure what this character was trying to be. Weily really enjoyed the musty, old, very used beard and santa hat he was coerced into wearing.

Jacob is downing another bottle in no time flat....he's going to do well in the college beer drinking contests. Teo stands in wonderment....what did he do to get that??? 

Silent Reading

The boys were over today and took time out to do a little silent reading. Their reading skills, at one year old are amazing. They can read upside down and from back to front!!!!

Teo started taking a few steps this week but today he really took off and by the end of the day he twice walked from the living room to the kitchen to greet his Daddy and then his Mommy when they each came home from work.

War Bride

This being the 60th anniversary of the Canadian War Brides we thought we would check out one of our own. My Aunt, Jessie Brown, as it turns out was a war bride. She married my Uncle Ron (my mothers brother) in England and in September 1946, she and their son Colin boarded the passenger ship Aquitania and departed Southampton for Canada. Unfortunately things didn't work out for Uncle Ron and Aunt Jess, and in the early 50's she returned to England with their two sons, Colin and Doug. The families have lost touch.

Remembrance Day

My Dad was 16 years old when he signed up with the 4th Canadian Mounted Rifles. He went overseas in 1915 and he fought in France and Belgium. In 1916 he was wounded at Ypres a few months before his 17th birthday but after convalesing in England he was eventually sent back into active duty. He was discharged in Toronto on 20 March 1919.

When he was in hospital they found out he had lied about his age. He was demoted back to a private and his pay was cut accordingly. Do you think the Canadian Army/Government should reinstate him and provide compensation for his lost pay?

The back of the post card has some notes which I think were written at a later date.....

"I got this picture taken after work one night just for fun. Some pose eh. I paid 12 cents for three. The high cost of living. Some attitude and cigarette stunt. Tear it up, after burning it"
